I think graphic design has been calling my name for WAY longer than I’ve been aware of it. The very first art exhibit that I remember going to and being absolutely FLOORED by was “The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965-71” at the Denver Art Museum in 2009. At the time, I didn’t know that that was graphic design. I just knew that the colors, the wild type, and imagery pulled from Art Nouveau-era graphic design was perfect. I spent the next decade or so recreating psychedelic posters by hand. I painted this particular poster in 2016 for a friend’s show. It’s certainly not perfect, but I love it just the same.
